Tim Pyper

 

Tim Pyper is Lecturer in Music at Williams College and Director of Music at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Williamstown. A graduate of Cornell University (DMA) and the Eastman School of Music (BM, MM, Performer’s Certificate), he has been a first-prize winner of several competitions including the Royal Canadian College of Organists’ National Competition and the Arthur Poister Competition. Past appointments have included tenures as Music Director at the Cathedral Church of the Redeemer (Calgary) and at Church of the Holy Apostles (Manhattan). An accomplished recitalist, he is described by The American Organist as possessing “effortless technique and sensitive musicality.” Tim studied the Alexander Technique at the Balance Arts Center in New York City, graduating as an AmSAT-certified teacher in 2018. He also holds the certificate in Injury-Preventive Keyboard Technique from Salem College. He teaches the Alexander Technique privately and also gives regular workshops in university settings, including presentations at Oxford University in both 2024 and 2025. Tim is interested in helping performers find their peak potential by refining their habitual responses to stimuli and by heightening their anatomical and spatial awareness.
